NASA: an asteroid as big as Everest will "touch" the Earth on April 29th

It will pass approximately 6 million kilometers from the earth, traveling at a speed of 8.7 kilometers per second.

"Potentially dangerous" because it will pass close to Earth's orbit, but is not among those that can cause impacts that would have "devastating effects"

According to the scientists, in fact, the asteroid 52768 will pass about 6 million kilometers from Earth, traveling at a speed of 8.7 km per second.
there is a chance in 50,000 that an asteroid could hit Earth in 100 years.

NEW YORK - Impressive for its size but for scientists its danger is only "potential". On April 29, an asteroid as large as Everest will point to Earth, but without colliding, also because if it did it would be "large enough to cause global effects". This is what NASA has announced.

The asteroid "52768", size calculations vary from a minimum of 1.7 to a maximum of 4 kilometers, was spotted for the first time in '98. According to the scientists, it will pass approximately 6 million kilometers from Earth, traveling at a speed of 8.7 kilometers per second.

Experts have called it "potentially dangerous" because it will pass close to Earth's orbit, but it is not among those that can cause impacts that would have "devastating effects". According to astronomers, there is a chance in 50,000 that an asteroid could hit Earth in 100 years.

Also in Italy there is an ESA ( European Space Agency ) center, in Frascati, whose goal is to monitor asteroids near the Earth and calculate their probability of having impacts with the Earth. It's called Neocc (Near Earth Objects Coordination Center).
