In China, the number of new COVID-19 cases was the lowest in 40 days.

The epidemiological situation with coronavirus in China is gradually improving, while in the past 24 hours in 25 regions of China no new infections were detected.

The total number of newly registered cases across the country was the lowest in the last 40 days, according to released statistics.

For example, 571 cases were detected on January 22 and 1737 on January 29, 2,590 on February 1, 3,887 on February 4, and 15,152 on February 12, due to a new method of calculating the statistics. 

There were 5,090 cases on 13 February, 2,641 cases on 14 February, 889 cases on 20 February, 648 cases on 22 February, 327 cases on 27 February and a total of 202 cases on 1 March, 193 of which were in Hubei province.

In addition, 42 fatalities were recorded on Sunday, all in Hubei province, the hotbed of the disease. In just one day, 2837 people were discharged from hospitals.

WHO recognized the outbreak as an emergency of international importance and gave the disease its official name, COVID-19. 

The number of confirmed cases of new coronavirus infection in mainland China reached 80 026 people, 2912 of whom died, 44 462 were cured and discharged from hospitals.
