Kuwaiti authorities have closed down a zoo to fight the spread of a new type of coronavirus, the General Authority for Agriculture and Fisheries reported to the Kuwaiti News Agency on Tuesday.

"The decision to close the zoo for visitors before further notice has been made in accordance with the instructions of the Kuwaiti government to avoid crowding and to stop the spread of coronavirus in the interest of maintaining the health of visitors," the authorities reported.

To date, Kuwait has recorded the highest number of cases of infections with the new type of coronavirus (COVID-19) of all six Gulf Arab countries. 

According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health of Kuwait, 56 people are infected in the country, most of them during trips to Iran. 

Earlier the Kuwaiti authorities forbade the citizens of 10 countries to enter the emirate without the certificate of absence of coronavirus infection certified by Kuwaiti embassies.
