CORONAVIRUS updatesHospital chief dies from coronavirus - experts expect stabilization of the situation only at the end of April.
Experts expect the coronavirus outbreak to peak at the end of February. However, 80 percent of the cases are mild.
According to a leading Chinese expert, the epidemic with the new lung disease in China will probably not stabilize until the end of April. "This is a very rough estimate," said Professor Zhong Nanshan, the head of the Chinese government's Group of Experts.
A peak in the outbreak across the country is expected by the end of February. "But reaching the peak does not mean the turning point," the renowned physician warned against taking any risks.
⬛ According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the number of new infections with the coronavirus is already decreasing.
This is indicated by data on 44,000 cases that China has provided to the WHO, said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Monday in Geneva. "It is too early to say that this decline will continue. All scenarios remain possible."
In addition, the data showed that Covid-19 was probably not as fatal as comparable diseases such as sars. According to the Chinese health authorities, more than 80 percent of coronavirus diseases are mild.
The WHO reiterated that the novel virus affects only a very small proportion of people outside China. The UN authority rejected demands for more drastic measures such as general travel bans. "All measures must be appropriate to the situation," said Tedros.
